We are always trying to find ways to keep our skin glowing and bright with our skincare routines. But did you know that the foods you eat can assist you with this? You may have made a face mask from some of the foods listed below, but the helpful properties don’t end with external applications. In this case the saying, “You are what you eat,” is true.

So what foods can help your skin? Let’s take a look below!

Avocado: Avocados contain healthy fatty acids that help to hydrate the skin and may help protect your skin from sun damage.

Berries: Loaded with antioxidants, berries can help protect your skin from free radicals. They can also help lower cholesterol and assist with detoxification. All of these help keep your skin healthy.

Citrus: Citrus fruits contain a large amount of vitamin C, which aids in the production of collagen. This helps keep your skin smooth and elastic.

Coconut Oil: This oil contains a medium chain triglyceride that has high levels of vitamin E. It has antifungal and antibacterial properties. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help with different skin conditions like psoriasis, contact dermatitis, eczema, and maybe even inflammatory acne.

Cucumber: One of the well-known things about cucumbers is that they’re mostly water. We all know how much water can help keep our skin moisturized. Cucumbers are also great for helping flush out water retention. They contain vitamin K, B, copper, and potassium, which are perfect for helping keep your skin healthy and vibrant.

Fatty Fish: Some of these include salmon, mackerel, and herring, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are incredibly important for your skin in keeping it thick, supple, and moisturized.

Green Tea: Green tea is great because it is full of antioxidants and polyphenols, which fight free radicals and help protect the skin from sun damage. BONUS: This tea also contains EGCGs (Epigallocatechingallate), which can assist with flushing out toxins and speeding up your metabolism.

Tomatoes: Tomatoes contain vitamin C and major carotenoids like lycopene, which helps shield us from the sun’s harmful rays naturally.

Turmeric: Not only does turmeric contain antioxidants, it also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Both properties assist in keeping your skin glowing.

Vegetables: Bright vegetables and cruciferous vegetables are both great for your skin. Some characteristics of bright vegetables that assist with keeping your skin healthy are high levels of antioxidants, carotenoids, and vitamin C. Similarly, cruciferous vegetables contain vitamin C, but they also contain zinc and selenium to help promote collagen production.

There are many more healthy foods that are great for your skin, but we hope the ones listed above can help you get started with your food-based skincare. If you don’t like some of the items listed above, don’t hesitate to do your own research to find other foods that would be best for you and your skin.
